Book Art Object – Edition #5

by Angela

Book Art Object Edition #5 is well underway!  The inspiration for this project is Migratory Shorebirds and the poetry (and photography) of John Bennett. This is also linked to Kate Gorringe-Smith’s  art project The Overwintering Project.

When Sara Bowen first sent the email for expressions of interest I literally laughed out loud when I heard the brief.  My response?  I was hoping for another BAO Project and if I made it up myself I couldn’t think of anything more perfect to fire my imagination than this.  She had me at Shorebirds and when I looked at the beautiful images and poetry of John Bennett I was sold.

The winter feathers of these birds have beautiful shades of greys and pale browns so I’ve bought  a new collection of ink pads to try to achieve this.  This is just the starting point and I’m not 100% sure where it is going.  I’ve also been experimenting with blind embossing so it may not be all rubber stamps, but I couldn’t resist the excuse to buy some beautiful ink pads.  New Ink Pads are one of the things that I would list as my adult equivalent of ‘new toys’ 😀 One of the others being new Tools.

Sara has set us up on Instagram and here is a list of members. We have been divided in to 2 groups and will all be exchanging books with each other.

For those not familiar with Book Art Object it was set up by Sara Bowen in 2009 and is a collaborative Artists’ Book Project. Each of the members makes an edition of books which we exchange with each other. This is usually in response to a piece of text – mainly using poetry for inspiration.

Yes indeed it’s good to be working together again. Also can’t believe it’s nearly 10 years since we started 😀
