May My Heart Always Be Open To Little Birds

I have been re-doing a lot of the Photos of my Work.  This print was made in 2015 when I attended Making Friends With Your Adana Press at CFPR, UWE Bristol.

I have always liked EE Cummings but only discovered this poem a few years ago. Being a Bird and Poetry lover I was really surprised I had never heard of it before. When making this print I tested on several papers. I knew I wanted to use grey ink and loved the subtlety on the grey card. It just seemed to go so well with the words.

may my heart always be open to little
birds who are the secrets of living
whatever they sing is better than to know
and if men should not hear them men are old

may my mind stroll about hungry
and fearless and thirsty and supple
and even if it’s sunday may i be wrong
for whenever men are right they are not young

and may myself do nothing usefully
and love yourself so more than truly
there’s never been quite such a fool who could fail
pulling all the sky over him with one smile

e.e. cummings
