Olivetti Lettera 22 Typewriter
I bought this Typewriter in 2014 in a Charity Shop in Tenby. It was in very good condition and came with a manual (you can see it in the second picture below). The case was in good condition too but part of the double zip is slighly broken. It is not one of my favourites 🙂 I prefer the Lettera 35.
Every now and then it does a double space when typing. I thought this was my fault and tried various things. The manual showed that this Typewriter has Personal Touch Tuning – “This device enables the user to adjust the key tension to suit his or her touch….” I tried all the settings but it didn’t make any difference.
I did a few searches and found that space skipping can be a problem with the Lettera 22, but there was also one post that said it was the way you type and suggested “a fast pecking motion” 🙂
I can touch type so tried typing fast with a deliberate rhythm. This seemed to work and it does help, but it still randomly does a double space in the the middle of a word. I tried various ways of typing with a fast pecking motion but it didn’t really work. At the risk of sounding whiney 🙂 none of my other typewriters do this.
There could be a mechanical fix for this, but I’ve never found it.
